Casa Anchieta hosts a selection of prints by Johann Moritz Rugendas, a German painter, draughtsman and printmaker who travelled through Brazil during the nineteenth century, documenting its landscapes, communities, customs, wildlife and plant life.

Published in the album Picturesque Journey through Brazil, his images helped shape the historical visual imagination of the country and provide a valuable record of its territory and cultural diversity. The exhibition offers an introduction to the work of a key figure in nineteenth-century Brazilian iconography.

The opening will feature Carlos Javier Castro Brunetto.
