Viva Naná is an inspiring duet tribute by pianist/composer Fred Soul and Brazilian percussionist Zé Luis Nascimento, conceived in honor of the legendary Naná Vasconcelos. The project masterfully blends contemporary jazz improvisation, Afro-rooted vocals, and intricate percussion, exploring a sound universe that weaves together East and West.

Soul’s piano presence—rich in melody and balanced between tradition and modernity—acts as the guiding thread. In turn, Nascimento’s percussion brings a diverse and refined rhythmic vocabulary: drums, chants, and subtle textures that evoke both Brazilian roots and Eastern sensibilities.

The result is a suggestive, intimate yet vibrant work that invites the listener on an emotional and eclectic journey. Moments of introspection alternate with rhythmic intensity, offering an auditory experience that is at once meditative and expansive.
